Research Paper Writing Tools: Pt. 2 - The Librarian

Transcript

This is going to be the second part of a three part series called "Tools for writing research papers." I hope you enjoyed the first part about it. It was about using the library and the resources that are there.

Today we are going to talk about utilizing the librarian.

Now, if you've ever wanted a map of where everything is in the library and how to find it quickly, the librarian is the perfect person to go to for this because they are like the mastermind of the library.

They know where everything is and they'll be able to help you find what you are looking for. So, that is the first way to utilize them.

If you don't know where to start, particularly with your research, they can point you in the right direction.

Or, maybe you don't have your topic narrowed down yet. They can help you narrow it down. They can help you make it something great. They may even have experience in the particular area of research that you're looking into and they can help you find those resources very quickly. That's the second way that they can help.

If you don't know where to find something, let's say you have a topic already, but you just don't know where to find the book or document you need to use for research, they can help you find it very quickly.

So, go and ask them. Ask them where is this, where can I find this, and they'll be able to help you find it and probably several other resources. And that goes into the third reason why you should use the librarian.

They can also make other resources available to you. If they know the topic of your research, they may be able to open up other areas of the library you weren't aware of, and that you can use for your research, which are very beneficial to your research and make it that much stronger.

So again, you should use the librarian because they will help you know where to start, help you find the things you are looking for, and can make other resources available to you.

In the next part of the series, I'm going to talk about using the internet for your research.
